New York Monday #37 - Bus Ride
As passengers and I waited for the bus to arrive, a group of pigeons fluttered around closeby. One pigeon left its group and walked over to where I stood and stopped a few inches from my foot. Its actions surprised me because they usually keep their distance, unless perhaps you are feeding them. But even then, they are very careful. So, I wondered why it approached me. Within a few seconds, I realized why it behaved the way it did.
Right next to my foot was a crack in the sidewalk, which I hadn't noticed before. The crack was filled with rainwater. The thirsty bird sipped the water from its personal fountain and stopped only to look at me every so often.
Soon the bus came and the pigeon and its friends flew out of the way. The passengers and I got on the bus and went on our merry way.
Have an awesome week!
Paz

Awesome.
Cool! You know when I am in London or in Berlin I love the underground/subway because you can see so many interesting things that people do. It's funny to watch!
Very interesting!
I love these little details we can observe in everyday life - the drinking pigeon is very very cute, and I love that bus stop pic!
Paz,
Everytime my bus reachs the Bus Authority, I'm always so amased to see some pigeons so relax and rest on a rustic pole or sth, even that place even doesn't have any breathing space. So no doubt your pigeon knew where to get to the "oasis".
Love the photo of the pigeon drinking out of the puddle. You have a great week too!
Great how you can see nature all around - even in the middle of the busy city! You have a great "eye" and a wonderful way of bringing the city experiences to life. Thanks for the snapshots of NYC.
Have a great week, Paz!
You are able to see the little special things along your daily way... great, Paz ! Hugs, angelika
I love your attention to detail! Have a good week Paz, hope you are well!
It's the little things like that that make life pleasurable--even while waiting for a bus! Thanks for the pics, Paz :)
Thanks for noticing the pigeon!
that is adorable. i love birds. they always seem to entice and surprise, even if pigeons are called "flying rats" by most new yorkers. i seem to make friends with birds whenever i eat at outdoor cafes, maybe b/c i feed them crumbs from time to time. but anyway, pigeons are still animals and still crack me up with their unpredictable actions.
Thanks, everyone for your comment! Hey there Mona: Good to see you here. I call them "rats with wings," too. ;-) But they've grown on me. This morning in the park, a pigeon came up to me as I was trying to take a picture of some sunflowers. Probably thought I had some food for him, which I didn't.... I took his pic instead. ;-)
Continue to have a great week, everyone!

What a sweet picture! I actually really like pigeons. My old bf had a bunch hatch on his terrace. We got to see them grow up and fly away.
Nice blog, BTW.
Hi Annie: Welcome and thank you! I think the idea of the pigeons hatching on our bf's terrace, growing and flying away is pretty cool!
Paz
I know this is so wrong, but everyone saw a pigeon drinking from a crack in the sidewalk, all I could see was pigeon pie.
LOL, Neil! That is so wrong. Poor pigeon! hahaha! But now you have me curious. Do you really have a pigeon pie recipe? How does it taste? I wouldn't think of eating NYC pigeons. I think there's a reason they're called "rats with wings" here. ;-)
