The Cooking Adventures of Chef Paz: Gold Coast French Toast

Gold Coast French Toast

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

As soon as I saw this simple and enticing recipe for French toast, posted by Heidi of 101 Cookbooks, I immediately knew that I had to try it. The recipe comes from one of her vintage cookbooks, The Spice Islands Cookbook.

What I like about this recipe is that I had all the ingredients (including the heart-shaped cookie cutter!) in my kitchen already. Also, it didn’t take a long time to assemble the ingredients or make the French toast. I’ve seen other recipes, which are more involved.

Heidi used Hawaiian sweet bread, but since I didn’t know what type of bread that is, I used challah bread.

The best part of my Gold Coast French Toast is that it tasted so good! I love it – I made my own food of love! ;-)

paz, what kind of bread can I use to do this recipe? I also saw it in Heidi's blog, but I got a little messed with the Hawaian sweet bread. Should it be a special kind of bread? thanks in advance. besos!

Joey, it tasted very good. I hope you're able to try it soon.

Tattum, I used Challah bread. Heidi recommends that you use "Challah bread or any eggy or sweet bread." The only bread that I know about is Challah, so that is what I used. It worked out perfectly for me. I hope that you can find it or something similar.

By the way, I forgot to tell you that my very good friend lives in Spain, too! ;-))))

Let me know if you find the bread or something similar.

Besos,
Paz

Tattum,

Only coffee for breakfast. I'm sniffing with you... sniff, sniff, sniff. ;-(

I'm sure there is a similar bread. I have e-mailed my friend in Spain to ask if she knows the names. I will let you know when I hear from her.

I've been to Spain many years ago. I would like to visit again.

Besos,
Paz
